A teenage girl from Chester has denied constructing an elaborate plot to kill a debt collector. Liverpool Crown Court has heard of how Rachael Hanna Horton had plotted to murder Martin Ithell before trying to hide evidence of her actions. Mr. Ithell died after being shot and stabbed in March of this year.
Miss Horton and her ex-partner, Scott Davidson, both deny killing Mr. Ithell over debts of £26,000.

Michael Chambers QC, prosecuting, claimed that the pair had initially plotted to commit robbery following their failure to repay Mr. Ithell. Miss Horton told the court that Mr. Davidson had suggested that robbery would be a solution to their money problems but claimed that it would have been a “last resort”. Mr. Chambers told the court that Miss Horton’s DNA had been found inside one of two balaclavas that the police had discovered along with an imitation pistol, a hammer, a baton and white latex gloves. Mr. Chambers told the court that Miss Horton was aware of Mr. Davidson’s debt and had felt “desperate” to resolve the issue.

Miss Horton claimed that she had taken a trip to the shops shortly following Mr. Ithell’s arrival. She returned to the house upon realising that she had forgotten her purse and was confronted with an altercation between Mr. Ithell and Mr. Davidson. It was during this time that Miss Horton claims that Mr. Ithell was murdered. However, she maintains that she “did not cause any injuries” to Mr. Ithell. The trial continues.
