A man who sold counterfeit products and unsafe chargers through his company has been prosecuted by Brent Council.

Kasimali Hajiyani, 34, sold thousands of pounds worth of counterfeit toners, memory cards and mobile phone accessories via his company KAS Trading UK Limited.

The investigation into Hajiyani and his company by Brent and Harrow Trading Standards found that he had sold the counterfeit items and unsafe chargers via “Electro Hub KTL” on eBay – and “Electrohub” on Amazon.

More than 3,000 items were seized from Hajiyani’s home, car and storage unit and loss to the industry as a result of his activities has been estimated at £226,541.

At Harrow Crow Court, Hajiyani was given a six-month sentence, suspended for 12 months – and was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £12,500 and a confiscation order of £19,674, forfeiting his criminal profits, after pleading guilty to the possession and sale of counterfeit items.

Brent Council Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Councillor Tom Miller, said:

“Buying fake goods affects legitimate businesses – they are often bad quality and in most cases unsafe.

“This man made a small fortune selling fake goods over the Internet, duping the consumer into thinking they had bought genuine printer toners and mobile phone accessories, when they had not.

“I hope it’s a lesson to others who may be ripping off the public that if we find them – even if they are trading online or at home – we will not hesitate to take action against them.”
