Sandwell Council in the West Midlands has announced that a transformation scheme which has seen three high-rise blocks in Smethwick benefit from an £11 million makeover has been short-listed for two prestigious industry awards due to be announced on Thursday 18 May.
The Crofts – comprising Ashcroft, Birchcroft and Elmcroft blocks in the Cape Hill area – has been recognised in the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards 2017, West Midlands, in the Regeneration and Residential categories.
The council said that the two-year refurbishment project was completed early in 2016 by Keepmoat on behalf of Sandwell Council.
External improvements include new roofs with energy efficient photovoltaic panels – and insulated cladding to reduce energy bills.
The makeover also included new windows and balconies on the blocks, which provide 270 homes.
