Public and professional feedback will inform future of children’s mental health services in Tameside (11 September 2015)

Duncan Lewis, Legal News Solicitors, Public and professional feedback will inform future of children’s mental health services in Tameside

A joint project by Tameside Council, Derbyshire County Council and local NHS organisations is seeking feedback on the future of mental health and emotional wellbeing services for children and young people in the region.

The two councils – along with Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) – are hoping the project will transform Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in the region, to ensure that young mental health patients are supported to overcome any issues, and will have the very best start in life to enable them to reach their full potential.

The project leaders say that evidence shows that social and emotional wellbeing in children can lead to problems and mental health issues in adolescence and adulthood – and the number of children and young people who experience these issues is “ever increasing”.

Feedback can be submitted by residents in Tameside and Glossop, as well as professionals working in the boroughs – and the project leaders say the success of the project will rely on feedback from children and young people, parents and carers, professionals and anyone with an interest in local mental health and emotional wellbeing services for children and young people.

The first phase of this project is focusing on:
• How children, young people and families access services, along with other mental health and wellbeing resources in the borough
• What kind of services people would like to see in the future, and
• How, where and when they would like to be able to access these services.
