A man from Braintree in Essex has been charged with rape and offences under the Modern Slavery Bill.
Local publisher Braintree and Witham Times reports that 43-year-old Kujtin Rex of Jeffreys Road in Braintree appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (20/05/15), after being charged with the offences.
Rex faces charges involving two counts of rape against an 18-year-old woman.
He also faces charges relating to three counts of slavery involving three men – two aged in their 20s and one in their 30s – who were made to work at a car wash in Colchester Road, Little Bentley.
All four victims are thought to have come to the UK from Romania.
Rex entered no plea and will appear before Chelmsford Crown Court on 27 July.
Senior Investigating Officer DCI John Ross said:
“Essex Police take allegations of human trafficking extremely seriously and we need to protect and support the vulnerable victims of these offences.
“If anyone else has been a victim of this type of offence or knows that it is going on please contact us as soon as possible.”
Essex Police are asking anyone with information to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
