Police and teenage suspect rescued from mud after police chase (16 February 2015)

The Metropolitan Police has had to send a Marine Support Unit to rescue a teenager who went on the run and ended up stuck in mud on marshland after he absconded from his vehicle when it was stopped by police.
The unnamed 19-year-old driver had left his vehicle with a 15-year-old still in the car at 8.30pm on Friday (13/02/15) evening, according to the Evening Standard newspaper.
He ran towards the River Cray in southeast London to escape police officers – and waded across the river to Crayford Marshes, where he became stuck in mud up to his waist.
A helicopter unit also had to rescue three police officers who had pursued him and also became stuck in the mud.
The suspect was airlifted by a helicopter and taken to a waiting ambulance before being transferred to hospital for treatment for hypothermia.
Police have arrested him on suspicion of vehicle and drug offences.
The 15-year-old passenger in the car was arrested on suspicion of travelling in a stolen vehicle and drug offences, police confirmed.
