Coroner Nadia Persaud has been unable to give a reason why a young woman from London who underwent buttock enhancing cosmetic surgery in the US became breathless and died just hours after the procedure.
Claudia Aderotimi, 20, from Hackney in east London, travelled to Philadelphia in the US for silicone injections to enhance her buttocks.
Hours after the operation, she developed chest pains and had difficulty breathing. Despite attempts by doctors to save her, Ms Aderotimi died in hospital in the US.
Walthamstow Coroner’s Court heard that Ms Aderotimi had decided to have the procedure because she felt buttock enhancement would help her secure more work in music videos.
Coroner Nadia Persaud said that a post-mortem in the US had given no cause of death – and when Ms Aderotimi’s body was repatriated to the UK, the cause of death could only be given as “unascertained” as her internal organs had been embalmed and dissected.
The inquest on Ms Aderotimi recorded an open verdict.
