A motorist from Islington in north London is due to appear in court today (16/02/15) after a 29-year-old woman was knocked down and later died from head injuries in Muswell Hill on 31 January.

The Evening Standard reports that 58-year-old Martin Appiah-Dankwah is facing charges of causing death by careless driving and causing death while driving with no insurance.

PR executive Nicole Levy died in hospital from head injuries two days after being involved in a collision with Appiah-Dankwah’s car as she crossed Priory Road in Muswell Hill with her boyfriend.

Her mother Suzanne Levy said:

“Nicole’s family and friends are utterly devastated. She was a girl with real charisma who was extremely fun and very caring and was deeply in love.”

Ms Levy was said to be planning a future with her boyfriend at the time of her death.

Her family added that she was a registered organ donor and they hoped her death would benefit others through organ donorship.

Meanwhile a 40-year-old woman from Islington has also spoken out about her fears for her unborn baby after a bag snatcher tried to mug her and she ended up being dragged along the ground by a moped.

The woman was walking home from a photo shoot in Hackney on 4 January where she was working as a make-up artist, when a moped mounted the pavement and snatched a bag containing thousands of pounds of designer make-up from her.

The moped dragged her along the pavement on her stomach for two metres as she clung to her make-up case.

“I was shouting and crying for help when I was on the ground, but he just sped off,” she said.

“I just couldn’t believe someone could do that …especially to someone who was so obviously pregnant…”

Doctors have confirmed that her baby suffered no harm. After sustaining cuts and bruises, she was discharged with treatment after being checked over following the incident. However, the make-up artist says she is now fearful of walking alone after the incident.

“I was lucky, but I’m still scared now walking around by myself – and when people run past it makes me jump.”

Police are currently looking for the rider of the moped – who may have committed a similar offence within a two-hour time span of his attack on his pregnant victim.
