Nottinghamshire County Council’s Co-production team is working with partners on events across the county in support of World Mental Health Day on Saturday, 10 October.
The council says the events will showcase activities and support services available, to reduce the stigma and ignorance around mental health issues.
The Co-production project encourages Nottinghamshire people with mental health difficulties to share their skills and experiences with others through group sessions, activities and workshops on areas of interest, such as music, art, adult education, gardening and support groups.
Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Adult Social Care and Health, Councillor Muriel Weisz, said:
“These awareness events are also very much a celebration of the achievement of local people who have overcome significant challenges –
and are living proof that mental illness doesn’t prevent a rich and fulfilling life.
“Gone are the days when activities are imposed on people with mental illness to improve their wellbeing.
“Our adult care approach focuses on tailoring support to each individual – and suggesting activities that will help boost their confidence and allow them to share their skills and experiences with people in a similar situation.”
Events will takes place at Beeston Middle Street Resource Centre – and West Bridgford and Mansfield libraries.
