Multi-millionaire Christopher Nightingale has agreed to pay his ex-wife a substantial divorce settlement after he initially offered her just £83.

Nightingale, 55, used to own computer company Citadel100, but told the family court he had sold his shares in the company – worth £6.6 million – for just £330. The former solicitor said this was the reason he could only offer his ex-wife Sally Nightingale £83 and not the £1.6m he had agreed to pay her when they separated.

Mrs Nightingale claimed that her former husband still had considerable wealth, despite his explanation of the “cut down” share deal which he presented to the court.

Mrs Nightingale’s ex-husband claimed that she did not appreciate money as she had never had to work. Mrs Nightingale lives in a 12th century castle in Cumbria, the court heard – but she claimed that her husband still had “piles of cash” despite his explanation about the sale of his shares in Citadel100.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Mrs Nightingale said her husband was trying to “starve her out”.

The couple eventually agreed to settle out-of-court and at the Old Bailey Mr Justice Mostyn said that he hoped the couple would be able to move on with their lives now they had reached agreement over the divorce settlement.
