A mother from Waltham Forest in east London who went missing with her four children and sparked an international manhunt has been arrested on her arrival back in the UK.
BBC News reports that the 33-year-old woman – who cannot be named for legal reasons – disappeared with her four children aged from four to 12, raising concern that she was travelling to Syria to join her sister and her sister’s husband whom, it is reported, is a follower of the radical preacher Anjem Choudary.
The Metropolitan Police said CCTV footage showed the woman boarding a flight to Amsterdam at City Airport in London on 25 August. She was eventually tracked down to Turkey with her children, who have now been taken into police protection in the UK.
The woman has been arrested at Luton Airport on suspicion of child abduction, having been detained in Turkey on Tuesday (01/09/15).
