Police have confirmed that three men have been arrested in connection with the discovery of the body of a woman in a suitcase at Little Venice, in west London on Sunday (10/05/15).

BBC News reports that they are aware of the woman’s identity but her name will not be released until relatives have been informed of her death.

The three men – aged 38, 34 and 30 – were arrested on Monday at separate addresses.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police said that initial post-mortem tests have proved “inconclusive”.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Ashwin said:

“We now believe that the body in a black suitcase was placed in the Grand Union Canal at some point in the last two weeks.
“While the body was recovered near to Little Venice, it is highly likely that she entered the water further along the canal.”

Det Ch Insp Ashwin said police were “following a number of lines of inquiry”, including conducting house-to-house enquiries, as well as reviewing CCTV footage.

The suitcase was removed from the Grand Union Canal near Delamere Terrace in Little Venice after a passer-by pulled it from the water and called police at around 14:30 BST on Sunday.

Police have spoken to houseboat residents on the canal to try and establish a sequence of events in the area on Friday and Saturday, before the suitcase was discovered.
