In the first public Q&A session with the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee, the recently appointed Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime Sophie Linden – and Deputy Commissioner Craig Mackey QPM – will answer questions on the proposed merger of borough commands in London and whether the merger is key to “real neighbourhood policing”.

Merging borough commands is being considered in a bid to save a proposed £60 million per year.

At a public meeting today (29/06/16), discussions will also involve Operation Viper, which is led by the Metropolitan Police’s Trident and Gang Command to tackle gun crime, as well as Westminster Council’s decision to switch off its CCTV.

Other topics will include the Mayor’s manifesto commitment for a review of London's preparedness for a major terrorist incident – and moped and motorbike enabled crime.

Every month, the Committee publicly questions senior representatives from the Metropolitan Police and the Mayor’s Office for Policing & Crime (MOPAC) on behalf of Londoners.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 29 June from 2.00pm in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

The Deputy Commissioner and the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime will also issue a short statement at the beginning of the meeting on their initial reaction to the EU Referendum result.
