Two popular holiday resorts on the Balearic Islands of Mallorca and Menorca have been struck by an outbreak of a vomiting bug.

Around 50 British holidaymakers have been taken ill with the holiday vomiting bug at the Club Mac Alcudia resort on Mallorca – while 20 British holidaymakers are suffering from a holiday sickness bug at the Stil Victoria Playa on Menorca.

The Mirror reports that some children taken ill with the holiday sickness bug were hospitalised.

News of the holiday vomiting bug in Spain comes a day after an outbreak of sickness and diarrhoea at the Coral Sea Waterworld resort in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt was revealed.

Guests staying at the Coral Sea Waterworld resort have complained about poor hygiene and dirty tables in the dining room – and dirty food containers and utensils on the buffet. The resort is used by the tour operator First Choice.

Some quests in Mallorca and Menorca who have been affected by the Spain vomiting bug have also complained about poor hygiene.

Package tour operator Thomson has said that the holiday sickness bug affecting guests on Menorca had “virus-like symptoms”.

However, it is reported that many of the holidaymakers affected are considering taking legal action and making a claim for holiday sickness compensation.
