Guildford Borough Council says that the number of local landlords gaining the seal of approval in the Guildford Lettings Accreditation scheme is increasing, with a total of 56 landlords and letting agents accredited in the voluntary scheme, covering around 660 properties.

The scheme aims to raise the standards of property management in the private rented sector – and reassure tenants their accommodation will meet a high standard and be well managed.

Guildford Borough Council set up the Guildford Lettings Accreditation scheme in partnership with the University of Surrey, Surrey Students' Union and the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM).

To further understand the growing private rental market and promote the scheme, the council held a breakfast discussion meeting attended by a number of local letting agents, the University of Surrey and the ACM.

Lead Councillor for Housing and Social Welfare, Councillor Tony Rooth, said:

“It is encouraging that many more letting agents are joining our scheme, which provides a mark of quality assurance for prospective tenants and accredited landlords.

“We have a high number of residents across the borough living in private rented accommodation.

“The recent meeting was a well-attended discussion bringing local letting agents, the University and ACM together with the Council to look at the large and increasing private rented sector in Guildford.”
