The Royal Borough of Greenwich has announced that local charity GRAce – Greenwich Refugee Aid: clothing, essentials – has launched an appeal for donations of clothing and essential supplies, to send to the Greek island of Chios for Syrian refugees.
A collection is taking place in the Town Hall, Woolwich in southeast London on Tuesday 14 June and Wednesday 15 June from 9am to 5pm.
The charity says that around 2,200 refugees being held in Chios on a semi-permanent basis and there are very few summer clothes available for them.
The refugees need items of clothing such as nappies, general clothing and shoes, as well as ready-made formula milk, baby wipes and towels.
GRAce collects, sorts, packs and distributes donations for refugees held in makeshift camps across Europe.
The charity networks with other established regional groups to share information and work together to assist refugees.
