Gloucester City Council has approved The Gloucester City Plan at a full council meeting – and has noted the timetable for the Gloucester City Plan’s subsequent submission to the Planning Inspectorate, which will now progress.

The council also agreed that, to tackle housing, employment and income deprivation, a flexible approach to working with communities will be taken – helping them to meet the needs that they identify and to achieve improved life chances for residents.

The council will also be leading on bringing together agencies and communities to identify and act upon the factors that are barriers to work and housing.

The Gloucester City Plan will guide the regeneration of Gloucester for the next 20 years. The council says that the City Plan will “sit underneath” the Joint Core Strategy, setting out where and when major regeneration schemes are expected to come forward and identify sites for new homes, jobs and shopping.

The Joint Core Strategy sets out strategic planning policy, such as how much development needs to be provided in the city.

Cabinet Member for housing and planning at Gloucester City Council, Councillor Colin Organ, said:

“The City Plan sets out our strategy for future growth in the city – this will lead to ongoing development and prosperity for Gloucester.”
