Hinckley and Bosworth Council in Leicestershire have imposed a full closure order on a flat in Hinckley, after a temporary anti-social behaviour closure notice was issued banning all visitors to the property.
The council said the temporary order was issued on 15 May after a number of complaints from residents about anti-social behaviour (ASB) at the property. A full closure order was issued on 18 May at Leicester Magistrates’ Court, preventing anyone from entering the property at 14 Palmer Road in Hinckley for three months.
The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 enables the council or police to close premises which are being used – or are likely to be used – to commit serious nuisance; or where there is, or is likely to be, disorderly, criminal or offensive behaviour on the premises.
The council's ASB and Tenancy Manager, Madeline Shellard, said:
“Complaints have been received from local residents about activity and unacceptable behaviour at this address.
“It is completely unacceptable that local residents are being subjected to this level of nuisance – people living nearby have the right to live in safety and peace without having to tolerate this.
”We would like to thank our partners and everyone in the community who came forward with the evidence that enabled us to obtain the closure order.”
A copy of the closure order has been displayed outside the house and anyone breaching the order could be arrested. If found guilty, they could face a punishment of up to 51 weeks in prison and/or an unlimited fine.
