Southwark Crown Court has ordered a convicted fraudster to repay nearly £1 million within six months – or spend another four years in jail.
Nigerian born Rilwan Oshodi, 31, from Thamesmead, was described as the mastermind behind a group called The Cheeseburger Gang, which bought the details of their victim’s Santander bank account for £3,200, after she inadvertently revealed them to a hacker.
The Evening Standard newspaper reports that Karen Budow’s life savings were withdrawn from the account – a total of £940,000 – by Oshodi’s girlfriend, who posed as Ms Budow.
Much of the money was spent at the January sales in 2012, the court was told – and the gang spent the remainder on a range of goods from cheeseburgers to gold and computers.
Oshodi was sentenced to eight years in jail in 2013, after being convicted of fraud.
At a confiscation hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act, Judge Stephen Robbins told Oshodi that he must repay the money he had taken fraudulently – or he would be sentenced to another four years in prison.
The court gave Oshodi six months in which to repay the monies.
