A former Olympic youth ambassador has received a two-year jail term for taking part in the civil unrest in London in August. 18-year-old Chelsea Ives, from east London, admitted her guilt to burglary, damaging property, and violent disorder. The court was informed that Miss Ives was involved in rioting in Enfield, North London and in Hackney, east London. In 2008, the teenager was granted the role of Olympic youth ambassador for Waltham Forest. She had therefore put her name forward to voluntarily help at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Miss Ives was described as a “very talented athlete” by the leader of her local council.
Miss Ives’ charge of burglary and violent disorder was associated with an assault on a mobile phone store and another offence in the Enfield area on August the 7th. The teenager also admitted her guilt to causing damage to a police vehicle on August the 7th and to violent disorder while in Hackney on August the 8th. Miss Ives denied two further charges of burglary. These charges will remain on her police record.
