South Bucks District Council has successfully prosecuted a couple, who failed to comply with a planning Enforcement Notice requiring the demolition of an unauthorised two-storey outbuilding.
The couple from Wexham had been ordered to demolish the outbuilding and remove the resulting materials – their appeal to the Secretary of State against the Enforcement Notice was also unsuccessful.
At High Wycombe Magistrates' Court, they were found guilty of not complying with the Enforcement Notice – and were each ordered to pay £1,254.09, including a fine, costs and a victim surcharge.
South Bucks District Council Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Development, Councillor Nick Naylor, said:
“Planning regulations are there to help protect the local environment and we take any breach very seriously.
“It was clear from the start that the building was totally inappropriate for the site – and was having a detrimental impact on the neighbouring properties.
“We are very pleased that the court upheld the prosecution and issued a fine – and hope that it sends out a strong message that unauthorised developments in the district will not be tolerated, and that we will use the legal means available to us to stop further unauthorised developments.”
