A family’s dream holiday to Florida has allegedly left their daughter suffering ill health as a result of mould in their hotel room.

The Daily Mail reports that Gary and Jamie Foreman saved for ten years to take family away on a £7,000 holiday to Disney World.

They flew with Virgin Holidays and stayed at the Buena Vista Resort in Orlando – the hotel is close to Disney World, but is not owned by the Disney resort and is run by staySky Hotels & Resorts.

The couple allege their room had mould, filthy carpets and stained bed sheets.

Their daughter Phoebe, 4, was ill for the entire holiday – and is still suffering ill health four months later.

Mr and Mrs Foreman were moved to another bedroom – but allege this was “dirtier than the first”.

Within hours, their youngest daughter Pheobe began experiencing breathing problems. She had not had an asthma attack for six months before the holiday – but had to be given steroids and an inhaler and was ill for the remainder of the holiday in April.

Since then, Phoebe has had to continue the medication, which she had been weaned off months before the holiday.

The couple from Hoveton in Norfolk – who run a fire and flood restoration company – are now taking legal advice. Mrs Foreman said:

“The management …said that they would have a specially cleaned room waiting for us – but when we arrived at the hotel, they couldn't find our booking for over an hour, so it was obvious that they hadn't prepared the room for us.

“When we arrived in the bedroom, I was disgusted. The carpet was hideous, the children were gagging because of the smell and there was black mould on the walls.

“My eldest daughter Isobel was supposed to be sleeping on the sofa bed, but when I saw it I couldn't believe it – it was filthy and stained, it looked like it had been slept on for 30 years.

“The hotel agreed to move us to another room, but when we got there it was even worse than the first one. There was black mould around the windows and there were no curtains. I went back down to the reception, but they said there was nothing they could do for us that night, and that we would have to wait until the morning.

“We agreed to stay in the room – but just a couple of hours later Phoebe became really ill. She started coughing and wheezing. She couldn't breathe. I had to give her an emergency inhaler that we brought with us. She didn't sleep at all.”
.
A spokesperson for Virgin Holidays told MailOnline Travel:

“We were sorry to learn of the Foreman family’s experience on their holiday – and have been in regular contact with them since they first made us aware of the issues.

“Our resort team provided assistance for them in situ – and since their return, an offer of compensation has been made.

“We’re sorry to hear that the Foremans’ experience did not match the high standards we usually deliver – and will continue to work to reach a satisfactory outcome.

It is reported that MailOnline Travel is awaiting a response from staySky Hotels & Resorts.
