The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued a statement on President Trump’s executive order on inbound migration to the US.

On Monday (30/01/17), Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson held conversations with the US government and as a result the FCO confirmed that the Presidential executive order only applied to individuals travelling from one of the seven named countries – Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Syria and Yemen.

The executive order does not apply to those travelling to the US from anywhere other than one of those countries – and travellers will experience no extra checks, regardless of nationality or place of birth, in this circumstance.

The order does not apply to UK nationals who happen to be travelling from one of those countries to the US – even if born in one of those countries.

Those with dual citizenship of one of the named countries who are travelling to the US from OUTSIDE those countries will not be affected.

The only dual nationals who might have extra checks are those coming from one of the seven named countries – for example, a UK-Libya dual national coming from Libya to the US.

The FCO said that the US had re-affirmed its strong commitment to the expeditious processing of all travellers from the United Kingdom.
