A former maths teacher has been handed down an 18-month suspended sentence after criminal charges for dealing in drugs were dropped against her.

Fatimah Ahmed, 30, pleaded guilty to concealing, disguising, converting, transferring or removing criminal property after £7,000 of money obtained by her husband as a result of drug dealing was found in her bank account.

The former teacher was suspended from Poynton High School in Cheshire when drug dealing allegations were made against her. She later resigned her post at the school.

Ms Ahmed and her husband Mohazzam Ali, 36 – both of Cedar Road in Stockport – were found to have “a variety of controlled drugs” at their home. The haul included cannabis, cocaine and Ecstasy-related substances.

Drug paraphernalia such as grinding apparatus, weighing scales and plastic bags was also found at the property, Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester heard.

When police raided their home in 2011 the couple were not married but have a child together.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Ahmed initially faced six drug-related charges, including two counts of possessing drugs with intent to supply, three counts of possessing drugs and a single count of concealing criminal property. Ahmed denied all six counts, before changing her plea to guilty on the day of trial. She admitted one count of concealing criminal property relating to the sum of £7,000 in her bank account.

The Criminal Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped the five other charges on the grounds of insufficient evidence.

The court handed down an 18-month jail sentence suspended for two years.

Her husband Mohazzam Ali pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing drugs with intent to supply – and three counts of possession. He is due to be sentenced later.

The CPS was granted 28 days to provide to the court a statement of Ahmed’s means for a possible prosecution under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
