A 58-year-old woman from Northallerton in West Yorkshire has pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming £11,400 in benefits.
The unnamed woman from Oak Grove was charged with three benefit fraud offences, after a joint investigation by Hambleton District Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
The court heard that the woman had failed to inform the council and the DWP that she had moved out of the property for which she was claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefit – and had moved in with her partner.
She also failed to declare that she had received a capital payment of £61,000.
Northallerton Magistrates’ Court imposed a 12-month Community Supervision Order with a Specified Activity 20-day order and a three-month curfew on the woman.
She was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge – and £620 towards legal costs.
The woman will also be responsible for repaying all outstanding overpayments to Hambleton District Council and the DWP.
