City Hall in London has held its first public meeting in a series of regular public meetings to hold the Metropolitan Police Service and criminal justice partners to account.
The first meeting took place on Wednesday (28/09/16) and the meetings aim to ensure everything possible is being done to meet the London Mayor’s priorities and objectives – and to keep Londoners safe.
The Policing Matters meetings will consider a concerning rise in crime – including gun crime – over the last year, as well as crime rates by area.
The meetings will also examine what more can be done for the most vulnerable Londoners – and to improve confidence in London’s communities.
The Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Sophie Linden, said:
“Keeping Londoners safe – and improving services for victims of crime – is the Mayor’s first priority.
“Building trust and confidence between the police and the communities they serve is absolutely essential.
“These public meetings provide a forum to discuss what is working and what is not – and help us to shape the future of the Met and the Criminal Justice System, in a way that reassures Londoners that the police are out there on the streets to protect them, and reduces the impact of crime on Londoners.”
The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime will host the Policing Matters and Justice Matters meetings at regular intervals throughout the year, bringing in the Metropolitan Police Service, criminal justice agencies and other key partners to discuss the issues that matter to the safety of Londoners.
