The company that owns the capsized cruise ship, the Costa Concordia, has awarded passengers £9,000 each in compensation. The cruise ship ran aground on January the 13th, with over 4,000 people on board. The agreement follows negotiations between Costa Cruises and a range of Italian consumer groups. The company has also promised passengers that they will refund any medical and transportation expenses incurred, in addition to the amount they paid for the cruise. The consumer group, Codacons, has advised passengers not to agree to the offer, it has been reported. Codacons and two United States law firms are reportedly instigating a class-action lawsuit against Costa Cruises, requesting a minimum payout of £105,000 for each passenger.
Duncan Lewis’ personal injury compensation solicitors are on hand to provide expert advice to clients who have suffered from an incident or injury while on a cruise ship. It is the responsibility of the cruise line to safeguard passengers from the point of embarkation until the point of disembarkation. In the event that they fail to do so, passengers may be entitled to personal injury compensation. However, the law is complex and it is for this reason that anyone wishing to instigate legal proceedings against a cruise line should consult with a trained solicitor.
Duncan Lewis’ personal injury department can also deal with accidents in the workplace, road traffic accidents, injuries because of a crime, trip, slips and falls and many more. The team can submit a claim for general damages and special damages.
