Cambridge City Council is to donate equipment seized as a result breaches of noise abatement notices to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to raise money for the charity.
The council’s Environmental Health team has seized speakers, televisions and stereo equipment, which have been kept in council possession as a result of formal action again noise offenders.
The seized equipment was removed from 12 different properties visited by the council in recent years.
Along with the seizure of equipment, the offenders were prosecuted and their equipment was forfeited to avoid a recurrence of noise intrusion to their neighbours.
Executive Councillor for Environment and Waste, Councillor Peter Roberts, said:
“The equipment in question was taken over a period of a few years from noisy neighbours.
“We feel it is important that, rather than being left in storage then destroyed, that the equipment is essentially recycled for charity – an option we hope others consider with their own old household electrical equipment.
“I am happy to say that we will be working alongside the British Heart Foundation once again, our partners on previous electrical recycling campaigns.
“The distress caused from noise pollution in our city is a serious problem, but a high number of the complaints we receive are successfully investigated by the council.
“I'm glad that if anyone benefits from these problems it’s the British Heart Foundation, as it is such a worthwhile organisation.”
