Duncan Lewis, Legal News Solicitors, Bradford construction worker dies one week after wall collapses during demolition

A Bradford construction worker has died from injuries sustained when a wall collapsed at a demolition site.

Local publisher the Telegraph and Argus reports that Andy Hagan, 35, was working on the demolition of the Deighton Centre in Huddersfield and suffered crush injuries, after being partially buried when the wall collapsed.

Mr Hagan was taken to Leeds General Infirmary but died on Tuesday (05/05/15) a week after the incident.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said a rapid response vehicle was despatched to the site, and Mr Hagan’s injuries were initially thought to be “non life threatening”. However, it transpired he had suffered multiple injuries in the incident.

Mr Hagan worked for Gill Demolitions Ltd based at Progress Works, Hall Lane, Bradford. The site is owned by Kirklees Council and he was one of a number of construction workers involved in the demolition in Huddersfield.

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has confirmed it is carrying out an investigation into the circumstances leading to Mr Hagan's death.

Kirklees Coroners Office has also confirmed Mr Hagan's death has been reported to officers. A date for an inquest into his death has not yet been set.

Mr Hagan died on 28 April – Workers Memorial Day, which is an annual event organised by the TUC to commemorate those killed during the course of their work.
