Birmingham City Council has announced that it has welcomed a family of four from Syria as part of its refugee resettlement programme.
The family arrived under the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation scheme. The council says this is the final group to arrive in Birmingham as part of the initial 50 refugees that the city council – with cross-party support – committed to accepting in September 2015.
The group – a mother with two sons and a daughter – arrived on Monday, 13 June.
Refugee Action – an organisation with a long history of supporting refugees in the UK – will be helping to integrate the new arrivals into their homes in Birmingham, as was the case with the previous groups who arrived in the city.
In May, Birmingham City Council welcomed two female refugees under the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation scheme.
Birmingham started welcoming refugees from the Syrian conflict in December 2015.
