Duncan Lewis, Legal News Solicitors, Bereaved husband makes heartfelt plea for road safety measures on dangerous road, after wife and mother is killed out jogging

The devastated husband of a young mother killed on a road while out jogging is calling for road safety measures to be introduced on a dangerous road where his wife was killed by a motorist.

David Gammie’s wife Louisa, 39, was killed after sustaining a serious head injury following a collision involving a Primastar Nissan car. The mother-of-one had gone for a jog at around 11am on 8 November – and took a route which led her along Old Malden Lane in Worcester Park, south London.

Mrs Gammie was wearing running clothes and trainers while out jogging, but the motorist collided with her on the lane – described by locals as a “very dangerous” stretch of road.

Passersby and paramedics tried to save her at the roadside before Mrs Gammie was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, where she died the following day as a result of her injuries.

Last week, a petition was launched calling for a footpath to be introduced in the lane to prevent other pedestrians from being injured or killed.

So far, more than 700 people have signed the petition, the Evening Standard newspaper reports.

Mr Gammie told the paper:

“If anything can be done to prevent a tragedy such as this occurring on the same stretch of road, it should be.

“There is a petition which could go some way to assist with that.”

The 34-year-old musician paid tribute to his wife, saying that his life and that of their 20-month-old daughter had been “shattered” by her death.

“She was the greatest mother to our beautiful Isla,” said Mr Gammie.

“The love and care she gave us was extraordinary – often leaving her without anything left for herself.

“She was the greatest mummy a child could have – the greatest friend and love that I have ever known.”

The couple had moved from Islington to Worcester Park near New Malden in Surrey in January. Mrs Gammie had previously worked as a senior HR manager at University College London.

An inquest into Mrs Gammie’s death at Woking Coroner’s Court opened and was adjourned on Monday (24/11/14).

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Police say he has been bailed until 8 January.

Surrey Police are asking witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to call 101.
