Duncan Lewis, Legal News Solicitors, A man threatening his wife of burning the house down has been given a suspended sentence

A man threatened to burn his partner's home down while she was inside it after she told him she wanted a divorce, a court heard.
Mark Martin who had an affair and child with another woman had his marriage to Jennifer Martin had broken.
After living together for 11 years, they were estranged for two years when the pair attempted to reconcile, city magistrates were told.
In April he went to her home and repeatedly asked her to return to him but she told him that she wanted a divorce and when she asked him to leave he became angry the prosecutor Laura Carthew said.
She left the living room but could hear banging and crashing, when she went back into the room, she saw the television had been kicked off its stand; ornaments had been scatted around the room
Martin, 42, of Tregelles Court, then told his former partner that if he couldn’t have her she could have none either. He then threatened to burn the house down with her inside it.
She was frightened and upset, prosecutor Mrs Carthew said, and went to ring 999. Operators kept her on the line during the call because they could hear the threats in the background.
He told her that if he was arrested after he had left then he was going to kill her.
He made his way to the bottom of her garden to leave her property, and damaged the gate when he kicked with enough force and told her not to go to sleep that night.
She later told police he had made threats and behaved in a similar way on previous occasions which had left her fearing he would carry out his threats. She said his arrest had given her "peace of mind".
Criminal lawyer for Martin, said his client did have previous convictions but he hadn't offended for 13 years. He said his client no longer wanted contact with his former wife.
Martin had admitted mixing alcohol with medication before the incident.
Martin admitted making threats to kill Mrs Martin and causing criminal damage in her home. Magistrates imposed an eight-week prison term, but agreed to suspend it for 12 months.
