Profile / Experience

I am a Trainee Solicitor currently working in the Public Law Department at Duncan Lewis on the second seat of my training contract.

I represent clients who have been unfairly treated by a government department, the local authority, or a tribunal. When all of my clients' appeal rights are exhausted, if there are merits to their case, I look to challenge their unfair treatment by way of Judicial Review. I have experience in challenging unlawful detention, false imprisonment, unlawful delays, challenging refusals of human rights applications, and challenging charter flight removals.

I have in-depth knowledge of private immigration matters including entry-clearance applications; deportation of foreign nationals; revocations of British nationality and indefinite leave to remain statuses, as well as asylum and human rights cases; challenging Home Office decisions; long residence applications; dependent family visas; EEA and their families applications; and marriage, partner and fiancé applications.

I have a keen interest in assisting clients whose cases fall out of scope of Legal Aid funding as per the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO). I advise on whether their cases have merit for Exceptional Case Funding; I draft grounds in support of their application; submit their applications; and wait to hear from the Legal Aid Agency on their behalf. I like to do this work pro-bono outside of my chargeable hours. I also intermittently assist my colleagues at the firm's pro bono surgery which take place on a Tuesday after our working hours. I receive regular referrals from Haringey Migrant Centre to assist those who are less privileged and who require legal representation.

I am an accredited Level 2 Senior Caseworker under the Law Society’s Immigration & Asylum Accreditation Scheme, this means I have demonstrated the desired level of knowledge and experience in this area of law as required by the Law Society.

Being of half Algerian and half Pakistani origin, I work closely with these communities in the United Kingdom. I also speak and read French fluently and read and write Arabic.

Testimonials

  • "Highly recommended - honest, accurate and smart! I feel blessed for having Kiren as my immigration lawyer. She is highly professional, methodical and organised in her work, but above all she is a wonderful person. My case was of highly complex nature and the biggest challenge was time...[Kiren] gave me honest and accurate advice...Kiren was efficient and timely in preparing the paperwork at every stage of the application. Throughout the process she ensured that we were providing all necessary information for a successful outcome. Her other admirable quality is that no matter what I asked her or when, she would respond within a couple of hours at most. I would highly recommend Kiren to anyone seeking legal representation in immigration matters." - Client, 2019

  • "The help and support we received from Kiren was outstanding, the kindness and determination she presented to us both always made us think so positive about what the outcome would be. She put in great diligence of work and always showed amazing support to us. Kiren not only helped us with the appeal but also saved our lives in a sense that before the appeal and without her help we had very little hope that our family would remain a unit. Having Kiren represent us give us the strength and hope that we did not have before meeting her. Kiren is always on hand to help us both understand the case. We are so grateful to Kiren for the amount of work and effort she put in to ensure this case was going to win, Kiren showed so much compassion, understanding and kindness throughout. The way she handled the work and whole of the case was professional and powerful, the kindness she presented, and the willingness she showed to help us with the appeal restored our faith. Without Kiren’s help I don't know how we would have survived. We are and always will be eternally grateful to Kiren for the help and support she has given us." - Client, 2019

  • "Kiren put in a great amount of effort and work into the bundle for court and always helped me to understand how the case would go. Kiren showed kindness and thoughtfulness when dealing with my deportation case and I am very grateful to her for the help and faith she has given me. Kiren handled the work very professionally and if it wasn't for her I wouldn't really know how I would have managed to deal with the case myself. Kiren has saved mine and my families life with the help she has given us, my appeal was won and I believe without Kiren and the help and support she provided me it would not have gone as well as it did. I was so happy when Kiren told me she was willing to take on my case and help me as I knew that it was tough for me to fight on my own, she stood by me and my family and her work ethic was proved how well she worked when my case was won. I am very thankful to Kiren and how much she help and supported me." - Client, 2019

  • "Great service and would definitely recommend, thank you for the support and help in handling my case. Despite of the complications we went through during the progress of my applications however, you managed to get a positive outcome. Keep up the good work Kiren and I wish you the best. - Client, 2019

  • "I would like to highly recommend this firm especially Kiren Azam because of her dedication. She is very helpful, honest and friendly. I went to her for immigration help literally last minute. Kiren handled my case very effectively and professionally within a very short time and the result was successful. I am very pleased with Kiren Azam." - Client

  • I needed a specialist in immigration matters and I was recommended to see a lovely and very helpful lady named Kiren Azam. Due to the complication of my case she worked very hard to make my case easy for me and she even had to do overtime two days in a row to complete my case file which was very impressive because even after having a busy schedule she managed to do my case and finish it before the deadline in a very short period of time. She was always in contact even after her working hours and was always available to advise us at any time. Very few people are out there today who give their time to honestly help others and Kiren Azam is one of them. Even on her holiday period she was in touch with me in regards to my case. I really see that she is a very hard working lady and is a very vital asset to Duncan Lewis Solicitors." - Client
