A Government policy which left vulnerable people without basic necessities such as toothpaste and sanitary products has been ruled unlawful by the High Court. The Home Office axed financial support payments for thousands of trafficking victims who had claimed asylum and were being accommodated in hotels. Our public law director Ahmed Aydeed, who brought the case on behalf of victims, said it was the right decision but told the Guardian: “We will never know how many survivors were re-trafficked and fell back into debt bondage due to the home secretary’s unlawful action.”
