I have practised family law since I qualified as a solicitor. I am an accredited member of the Law Society Children Panel, children’s representative since 1994. I specialise in representing children in care proceedings and private law cases through guardians. I have also taken instructions directly from children and have represented parents and grandparents in public law cases.
The cases I have been involved with have covered the following areas:
I undertake advocacy and have represented clients at all levels of court.
I have also worked for various Local Authority Legal Department’s for a number of years and I therefore have experience and knowledge of Children’s Services protocols and procedures.
I am in a unique position whereby I understand the complexity of a case from the perspectives of both the Local Authority and the other parties.
I can appreciate how and why Local Authorities may have made decisions in a certain way and with my particular insight I can advance a case for my client by negotiating and where appropriate challenging those decisions in the interest of the party I am representing.
I have worked with guardians in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and London.
I was a committee member for Hertfordshire Family Law Group, which brought together professional from all disciplines involved with family disputes such as Cafcass officers, counsellors, Judges, legal advisers, and mediators. I was also a committee member for Hemel Hempstead Contact Centre, and Hertfordshire Family Mediation Service.
I am fluent in Gujarati and am able to understand basic Hindi.
"Harshila is a very experienced Children’s Panel solicitor and I feel very confident about the advice she provides which is particularly important if issues are not clear. She engages well with clients. She made good arrangements for support to continue when she was on leave which was very important as this was a key time in the case."
