Profile / Experience
I am a Caseworker in the Mental Health Department at Duncan Lewis.
I am a Law Society Accredited Mental Health Panel Member, this means I have demonstrated my specialist knowledge and experience in relation to the representation of patients in all proceedings before the first-tier tribunal (mental health) under the Mental Health Act as defined by the Law Society. I am authorised to represent clients under a legal aid contract who are detained under the Mental Health Act before all relevant tribunals throughout England or Wales.
My work is predominantly publicly funded (legal aid) and it concentrates on areas of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended by the 2007 Act). I mainly deal with clients who have been detained under the Act and assist them with legal advice and representation. This includes representation at CPA meetings, section 117 meetings, Hospital Managers Hearings and before the First-tier Mental Health Tribunal.
I work predominantly on criminal/restricted cases under the Act, where clients are detained in either a forensic medium or high secure setting, assisting them in their treatment care pathway. I have a broad experience dealing with clients with complex care needs and those who have a dual diagnosis and personality disorders.
