Sandwell Council in the West Midlands has announced that Sandwell's Register Office is now offering a European passport return service for European Economic Union and Swiss nationals applying to live and work in the UK.
EU and Swiss nationals can now have their passports verified and copied and sent to the Home Office – which means they can keep their passports while their application is being processed.
The council says that no appointment is necessary – but people using the service need to visit the Register Office within five days of submitting their online form.
Applicants must also attend in person and not send someone on their behalf. They must also bring a valid passport, a checklist and a payment notification number (PNN) from the Home Office. The cost of the service is £20, including postage.
The council advises that using the European passport return service does not guarantee the success of an application – and the council cannot provide any advice on applications.
Sandwell Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for neighbourhoods and communities, Councillor Syeda Khatun, said:
“We're pleased to be offering the European passport return service to EEA and Swiss nationals – this means applicants can keep their passports while they are waiting for their applications to be processed.
“The service is available to both residents and non-residents of Sandwell.”
