Profile / Experience
I am a Trainee Solicitor and work within the Family and Child Care departments.
I handle a varied caseload dealing mainly with private law children proceedings and domestic violence cases, as well as public law children care proceedings. I also assist on divorce and financial matters arising out of divorce proceedings. I assist the solicitors in the team and I also manage my own caseload from start to finish. I am the first contact for clients and advise them on the law, the court process, and the availability of legal aid and/or private fees. I draft witness statements, court applications and conduct my own advocacy.
I have over two years worth of advocacy experience before magistrates, district judges and circuit judges. I have also managed cases with supervision which have been heard in the High Court. I have obtained Non-Molestation Orders, Occupation Orders, Child Arrangement Orders, and Prohibited Steps Orders (private children’s proceedings).
Whilst at Duncan Lewis I have liaised with charities in Birmingham City Centre and have been entrusted to attend a clinic and provide 30 minute pro-bono legal advice to vulnerable clients. From working with charities and maintaining these links, I have been able to obtain Non-Molestation Orders for the vulnerable clients to protect them against their abusive ex- partners. I am active in networking and I am keen to be involved in marketing Duncan Lewis locally which allows me to establish a relationship with barristers, judges and other solicitors in the area.
