In order to sponsor an international student to the UK, your educational institution must possess a sponsorship licence which is issued by the Home Office.
Once your company has been vetted through an application process and approved as a licensed sponsor you can then issue a Certificate of Acceptance to Study (CAS) to the migrant student, subject to meeting all the relevant criteria.
The rules and procedures in relation obtaining a sponsorship licence can be complex and are constantly changing.
The Home Office’s criterion for issuing a licence is very subjective and they will assess whether your educational institution has genuine and suitable courses available for international students.
The Home Office will also need to be satisfied on the following:
- that you genuinely offer suitable courses for international students;
- that you have effective enrolment and attendance systems in place to meet your sponsorship duties;
- you or your educational institution has no previous history of immigration non-compliance or any relevant criminal convictions.
