Sumrah is a qualified solicitor with 1 and a half years PQE, and is currently working in the Public Law / Immigration department. Sumrah graduated from The University of Hertfordshire and then went on to do the LPC at The College of Law.
Sumrah was attracted to Duncan Lewis because of the opportunities to gain first hand experience with clients and because it is a leading legal aid firm. Sumrah commenced work with Duncan Lewis and Co and secured a training contract soon after. During her training contract Sumrah covered Immigration Law, Family Law and Child Care.
Sumrah is qualified under the Law society's Immigration and Asylum Accreditation scheme as a senior Caseworker level 2 from January 2006 and is also a supervisor. This allows her to specialize in immigration and nationality law.
Sumrah has a range of experience and deals predominantly with judicial reviews and court of appeal and reconsideration matters. Sumrah conducts her own advocacy and has successfully won many appeals.
Sumrah specialises in Asylum and Immigration appeals, asylum applications, deportation, general immigration matters such as entry clearance, family reunion, marriage application, student applications, domestic violence, victims of torture, EEA and nationality matters, detention centre work, fast track matters. She has represented minors and disputed minors and is fully aware of the procedure in obtaining expert reports and make representations to the Home Office to ensure the correct procedure is followed.
Whilst at university Sumrah was part of the mooting team and therefore has experience of advocacy from a young age. Sumrah has also been involved in voluntary work, including mentoring younger pupils for reading skills.
