James Packer was invited on ABN Radio to discuss Theresa May’s recent remarks in parliament concerning pregnant women. In NHS hospitals, there are proposals that pregnant women are set to be forced to show their passports before receiving treatment.
Theresa May stated in Parliament last week that: ‘where there are people that are in this country that come to this country to use our health service and should be paying for it that the health service actually identifies those people and makes sure it gets the money from them.’ May did suggest that ‘of course emergency care will be provided without those questions.’
During his interview on ABN Radio, Packer argues that May’s comment is part of an ‘increasingly populist agenda which she wishes her government to pursue’. Packer discusses, among other things, the concept of the government passing on their work to others, like the NHS and Universities, who are in effect, he says, to act as ‘unpaid border guards’.
