Duncan Lewis: Yesim Ulutas

Consultant
New Cross Gate Office

Yesim joined Duncan Lewis in September 2011 as a Consultant Solicitor. She initially joined the firm back in 2007 as a paralegal in the Mental Health Department and left the firm upon her qualification as a Solicitor in January 2011. She obtained her LLB at Keele University in 2006 where she studied both Law and Criminology. Further to this she completed her LPC at BPP Law in London.

Since 2007 Yesim has been dedicated in assisting client's with their mental health law matters. This includes clients detained under restricted and non restricted sections in hospital, and patients treated in the community under the provisions of a Community Treatment Order. She regularly represents clients at the Mental Health Tribunal and at Hospital Manager's Hearings. Yesim is passionate in ensuring that all client's detained under the Mental Health Act have an opportunity to have their case fairly reviewed by an independant panel, and have their opinions voiced. In 2011 she sucessfully challenged the original decision of a First-Tier Tribunal which was found to be irrational and wrong in law. She has also submitted several complaints to NHS Trusts voicing her client's concerns regarding their treatment or after care arrangements. Yesim is member of the Law Society's Mental Health Tribunal Panel Membership Scheme. Only representatives who meet the Law Society's accredication standards are permitted to join this panel.
