Ms Godwin is based in Oxford as a specialist mental health lawyer, providing advice to both civil and forensic clients regarding all issues pertaining to their detention under the Mental Health Act.

After gaining a First Class degree in Ancient History, Ms Godwin worked in publishing as editor on the Classics list at Oxford University Press.

Ms Godwin was called to the Bar in July 2005 as a member of the Honourable Society of Greys Inn. She was admitted to the roll of solicitors in 2008. She is a member of the Law Society's Mental Health Review Tribunal Accreditation Scheme Panel and a member of the Mental Health Lawyers Association.

Ms Godwin has advised in the fields of debt, housing, public law, and family law, as well as mental health and capacity law. She is a contributor to a leading practitioners' text on intellectual property law. Ms Godwin has been at Duncan Lewis since September 2010.

She is an experienced human rights advocate representing both civil and forensic mentally disordered clients in court and before the Mental Health Review Tribunal. She also has experience in judicial review proceedings arising out of mental health matters, in particular the funding for after-care provision.
