Mental Health

Charanjit graduated from The Queen Mary University Of London in 2006 and then went on to study the LPC at The College Of Law in London. She joined Duncan Lewis in October 2007 as a Caseworker within the Housing Department. She was attracted to Duncan Lewis because of its strong commitment to publically funded clients.

She commenced her training contract in August 2008 and qualified as a Solicitor specialising in Community Care and Mental Health law in March 2010. She is a member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal Panel and represents patients detained under civil sections and restricted patients in their appeals to the Mental Health Review Tribunal and Hospital Managers. She is currently based at the News Cross Gate branch where she is supervising caseworkers.

She enjoys being able to offer assistance and advice to vulnerable patients about our psychiatric system, which has the awesome power to incarcerate them indefinitely, strip them of fundamental rights, and impose medication and other treatment against their will. She finds it very rewarding knowing that she has been able to give detained patients a voice at a point in their life where they feel the most vulnerable.
