A man from County Armagh has been found by the courts to be guilty of the murder of his wife. Christopher Harper had admitted his guilt to killing his spouse in August 2010 but had denied that it was murder. The 40-year-old woman was stabbed once in the neck in her own home. Craigavon Crown Court had been previously informed that on the day of her murder, Mrs. Harper had informed her husband that she no longer wanted to be with him. Mr. Harper's defence solicitors claimed that Mr. Harper had been angered at his wife engaging in extra-marital affairs at the time of the killing and had been consumed by guilt and remorse ever since, yet the jury were not convinced that this was the case, believing that Mr. Harper had fully intended to murder his wife. Prosecution solicitors stated that Mr. Harper’s actions were driven by jealousy. The jury heard how Mr. Harper had freely walked into his local police station and confessed his guilt to the murder of his wife. The judge told Mr. Harper that he would receive a life sentence but has requested pre-sentence reports to aid his decision on handing a minimum tariff.
