A father has been handed a nine-year jail term for killing his young son because he persistently cried. Nathan Allen bit his 14-month son on the cheek and punched his abdomen with such force that he suffered from internal bleeding, leading to his death. Mr. Allen had been left to look after the youngster for half-an-hour while his partner, Danielle Hands, visited her Family. During the trial, Mr. Allen informed the court that he punched his son twice because he would not cease crying. Mr. Allen claimed that he “didn't know what else to do” and realised that his actions were wrong.
Mr. Allen, 27, from Romford, admitted his guilt to manslaughter. The jury found Mr. Allen to be not guilty of murder, claiming that he had not planned to kill his son upon striking him. The Common Serjeant of London, Brian Barker QC, described Mr. Allen’s actions as “aggressive and extreme”. Mr. Barker told the court that Mr. Allen had committed a “terrible act” and told Mr. Allen that he “must take responsibility” for his actions.
