Emel is a Consultant Solicitor in the Immigration Department. She graduated from the University of Bedfordshire with a degree and Masters in Marketing and subsequently completed the CPE and LPC at London Guildhall University. She has specialised in Immigration, Human Rights and Public Law since qualifying as a Solicitor in 2006 and is qualified under the Law Society's Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme as an Accredited Senior Caseworker and Supervisor.
Emel has been involved in many cases of interest over the years, which range from straightforward immigration cases to representation of vulnerable people such as minors, and those that are victims of torture, domestic violence and human trafficking. As a specialist legal aid practitioner, she has been involved in a number of cases on a pro-bono basis.
Emel has a wide range of experience and skills, partly from her employment as described above, and also through extensive voluntary involvement in a number of projects and organisations. She is an active member of Halkevi Kurdish and Turkish Community Centre, a registered charity, which provides advice and support to Kurdish/Turkish immigrants and refugees in London. As a member and volunteer, she has been involved in developing and implementing a comprehensive service for the Kurdish/Turkish community, catering for their welfare, social health and educational needs. She has also been involved in a number of human rights campaigns and fundraising events.
