Ayan joined Duncan Lewis in November 2006 and is currently a Director and Head of the Immigration team at the Hackney Office. Ayan qualified as a Solicitor in January 2001 and has over 8 years experience specialising in the field of Immigration and Nationality law. He has been qualified under the Law society’s Immigration and Accreditation Scheme as a senior caseworker and supervisor since June 2005 which allows him to specialise in Immigration and Nationality law and provide specialist legal help for publicly funded work under the firms legal services commission franchise.

Ayan has been supervising and leading a team of strong and varied level of accredited advisors. The quality of supervision and training is evident in the high quality of work produced by the department as a whole which is reflected in successful audits and in particular the last Peer Review where the firm attained Competence Plus (2).

Ayan has worked at a prestigious award winning global corporate Immigration law firm in Central London concentrating on providing bespoke corporate immigration services. He has a wide range of experience within the commercial and business fields, dealing with a range of fortune/global 500 companies, specialising in media, energy, finance and banking sectors as well as private applications for high net worth individuals/entrepreneurs. In addition to dealing with UK immigration matters he has experience in global immigration, including engagements for the mobility of human capital throughout Africa, Middle East, Far East, Russia and Turkey.

Ayan specialises in Tier 1 (Highly skilled workers, entrepreneurs, investors and graduates); Tier 2 (Sponsored skilled workers); Tier 4 (students) and Tier 5 (temporary workers) applications he also regularly represents clients at the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal (AIT) which include human rights, asylum, deportation, visa, managed migration and reconsideration hearings. Ayan has an excellent success rate at the AIT.

Ayan’s experience also includes: ECAA; EEA; family reunion; marriage; visa; naturalisation; ILR; and various FLR applications. Ayan is able to deal with asylum applications through to Judicial Review/ Statutory review to the COA and is extremely experienced in detention centre cases; discretionary leave; concessionary policies; human rights and British nationality law.

Ayan has played a major role developing and managing the extensive Immigration team at the Hackney office. As well as dealing with the day to day management of the immigration department in Hackney he is the Head of the Managed Migration team and is involved in marketing and promoting the firms legal services to UK organisations and companies abroad. Ayan has attended and assisted with outreach work with voluntary organisations and in particular has close links with Turkish speaking organisations. Ayan is also fluent in the Turkish language. Ayan is a regular speaker at many leading universities where he has addressed international students/ university staff and advised on the latest developments on working in the UK. He has also written articles in relation to Immigration updates in various community based newspapers.
