Selena qualified as a solicitor in September 2007, completing her training contract in a high street firm in Windsor, completing seats in private client, conveyancing, litigation and family law. After qualifying, she was offered a position with a firm in Reading where she practiced wills and probate, residential conveyancing and commercial conveyancing where she was also exposed to immigration work. She found the work very interesting, especially asylum and human rights law and immediately developed an interest in immigration law. Given the pressures of the recession and her new interest, Selena decided to take a career break and re-train into immigration altogether.
Selena took a career break, went travelling for a period of 6 months in Asia, beginning her trip in Nepal where she finished the Everest-Base Camp Trek. She then went travelling in North and South India, Bhutan and Thailand.
Selena joined Duncan Lewis in October 2010 and she has been working within immigration ever since.
Selena is accredited to level 2 of the Solicitors' Regulation Authority's Asylum and Immigration Accreditation Scheme which allows her to conduct her own immigration appeals, whether asylum or non-asylum, including bail applications, working with vulnerable clients such as minors and doing fast track asylum work. Selena also has enhanced CRB which allows her to specifically accept instructions from accompanied and unaccompanied asylum seeking children.
Selena has developed a strong caseload in all types of immigration work such as asylum applications from minors and adults, fast track applications including preparation and representation at appeals at First-Tier Tribunals, bail applications including representation at First-Tier Tribunal, deportation and removal, applications under EU law and judicial review applications.
She also has experience of further leave to remain applications such as humanitarian protection, discretionary leave and representations based on human rights grounds.
Selena has also conducted entry clearance applications relating to spouses, fiancés, unmarried partners, visitors, grandparents and children under the Immigration Rules including leave to remain and indefinite leave to remain applications including preparation and representation at First-Tier Tribunals.
Selena is highly committed to client care and her duty to act in the best interests of her client.
In her spare time, Selena enjoys cooking, hiking and travelling to new destinations, especially enjoying holidays in warm places.
