Poonam graduated from Derby University in 2005 and completed the LPC at The College of Law. Poonam joined Duncan Lewis in May 2007 as a Caseworker within the Immigration department.

Poonam was attracted to Duncan Lewis because the firm provided a range of specialist legal areas. She studied Immigration Law and wished to develop her knowledge and experience in this area of law and therefore applied to become a Caseworker within the Immigration Department with the firm.

Poonam specialises in a series of immigration related work. Poonam is also accredited to Level 2 and is therefore able to extend her skills to practice immigration law ranging from minor clients to utilising her skills to practice the law of appeals. Poonam has also been working with overseas clients within the area of Managed Migration and in particular has prepared applications under the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme as well as working with clients who have Business Law Appeals in the UK.

Poonam has also worked extensively with detained clients both at Immigration Detention Centres and Prisons. Such work has meant extensively liaising with vulnerable clients. Detention work has allowed Poonam to gain extensive knowledge within the field of bail as well as complex and challenging areas of law such as Deportation.

Poonam is fluent in the Gujarati language.
